Numbers

We are learning to recognise and form numbers.  We play number hunting games, number detective and lots more.  We love making numbers out of play doh and forming the numbers in our books.  We learn a little poem to help us remember how to make the number.
So far we have learned the number one.

Straight line down
and then we're done
thats how to make
the number one

Number 1 is like a stick.
A straight line that is very quick.

And we have also learned the number 2.

Around and back
On the railroad tack.
Two, two,
Two, two

For number 2, go right around.
Then make a line across the ground.

Matching

We are getting very good at matching the names of the Sunny Street Characters to the pictures.
The children tell me they practice every night.  Well done to them!

Drama in Junior Infants

Some say we are very good at being dramatic in Junior Infants.  We are fantastic at pretending which makes for fantastic actors.

Look how still we can be                   shhhhhh!!!

We love to pretend we are toys that come to life.  The toy shop owner (teacher) fixes all the toys onto the shelves for the night and cleans them all. When she goes to bed something amazing happens, the toys come to life.  When the toy shop owner hears all the noise she rushes to the toy shop to see what is going on.  She finds the toys are in different places and very messy looking.   The toys have to stay very still when the owner is there because she will sell any talking or moving toys for alot of money.

But when we come to life, we really make some noise!!

Data in Junior Infants

Titch The Witch asked us to share our favourite things about Halloween with her.  We decided the best way to do this was with pictures and using a chart.  Each picture represented something about Halloween.
We each had a turn to pick our favourite picture. Then we hid it so we would not just copy our neighbours favourite thing.
Here were our findings

We had lots of questions and the chart answered them all for us.
There were 15 children in school today.  Most of the children thought trick or treating was the best thing about Halloween ( the sweets represent this).  Only one person liked all the spooky things about Halloween.

Balancing

We had great fun with some of our fantastic PE equipment today.  There is always great excitement when we try a piece of equipment.  We have worked on various balancing techniques and today we made a bridge over troubled water and crossed it without falling off.

We also practiced blancing plates on a stick.  We could not believe how good some children were at this activity.  We think they looked like magicians.  They were far better than teacher at this.  Her plate kept falling off the stick. We all laughed :)

Making Hedgehogs

We had great fun finding all the shapes that were hidden in the clay..  We made a hedgehog body and added the spikes.  It was hard work putting all the spikes into the clay and we needed to make sure the spikes were close together like on a real hedgehog.

We have learned a song about Harry Hedgehog.  We know he is getting ready for a big sleep by gobbling up the berries and the insects and the worms.  He is going to have a big rest for the Winter time and he doesnt wake up until the Spring time.

On our tour to Briget's Garden we learned of lots of animals that like to have a big sleep for Winter.

Making Friendship Braclets

We love threading and doing activities with our hands.  We discussed all about friends.  Friends we have at school and home.  We think we should treat everybody the way we would like to be treated.  So we made friendship braclets to show we are all great friends in this class.  We think they turned out brilliant.  We think they even look as good as the ones you can buy in the shop.

Titch The Witch

A friendly witch has come to stay in our classroom. Her name is Titch The Witch.  Her broom stopped working and so she is staying in our classroom at night making potions and leaving notes for us to find in the morning.  We all work together and write a note back to Titch every morning.  We think of the questions we'd like to ask Titch and teacher writes it all down on the note for Titch.  Titch sometimes leaves Halloween activities and art ideas for us to try out.  She left lots of decorations for us and we all helped to put them up in the class to make Titch feel at home.
We made spooky ghosts, pumkins and bats for Titch already.

Big Trip

We learned lots of things in Brigit's Garden.
We learned what a mouse needs to survive and that the fox likes to eat mice.

We searched for leaves and hazelnuts on a scavenger hunt.We made a home for our friend Mighty Mouse to hide from the owl and fox.  The owl has big eyes and can find the mouse very easily.  We put leaves, twigs and moss into the home for the mouse. This is called camouflage. We think Mighty really liked the homes we made.  We hid them in different places around the garden.

We listened for the song of three birds; the blackbird, the robin and the Chaffinch.

We played lots of games and had great fun.

Using Nummber Fans

We love playing number detective with our number fans.  Teacher calls a number and we find that number hidden in the fan.

Sorting in Junior Infants

We've practiced finding things of different colour and we were fantastic.  Teacher's toys got all jumbled up so we needed to help her sort them out.  Luckily we are all ready good at sorting now and we fixed all the beads and pegs into sorting trays by colour.
